Sorry for the late update. Vitalin Gems are now every 4 hours not twenty!

How often can I find a Vitalin Gem? Where can I find Vitalin Gems?

Vitalin Gems are found by mining Vitalin Crystals. After you mine a Vitalin Gem you will not be able to mine another for 4 hours. After 4 hours is up you can mine a Vitalin Gem whenever you want, but the timer will not reset until you have mined the gem.

If you leave your cursor over a Vitalin Crystal a bubble will show how much time is remaining until you can harvest the next one, or if one is ready now (see images below).




Can my friends send me Vitalin Gems? Can I gift Vitalin Gems to my friends?

No, vitalin gems are not giftable.



Can I buy Vitalin Gems?

Yes, Vitalin Gems are for sale for 9 credits each. Vitalin Gems can only be purchased through a quest or ruin that requires them; they are not listed in the Shoppe.




What's the point of having so many Vitalin Crystals if I can only get one gem every 4 hours?

Vitalin Crystals will also give regular Vitalin when mined. If you chop a Vitalin Crystal part way it will regenerate when your rocks grow.



I don't have any Vitalin Crystals, what do I do?

You can use your neighbour's Vitalin Crystals to receive your Vitalin Gems. Huginn has some available. Don't worry when you mine your neighbour's rocks it doesn't alter your neighbour's mine - anything you mine will still be there for them to mine.

Also one Vitalin Crystal should grow back if you have none left.

I am up to the quest called A Scholarly Project, Where luka is asking to use 24 Vitalin Gems.
But How do I use the Vitalin Gems???? I'm confused please explain.

I have been allowing vitalin crystals to grow, and waited for them to be ready, and then !BAM! I had time to mine one crystal and they all reset at once before I could mine the rest of them. How do I go about mining them all, while still allowing them to continue to grow, of course. Thanks for any help! SisterSea

You get ONE per time limit, it doesn't matter if you have 10 Vitalin Crystal rocks or none and you use a neighbour's Vitalin Crystal. Once you harvest one your timer resets and you won't get another Vitalin Gem until the timer runs out again. However you can mine your Vitalin Crystals to get regular Vitalin.

You just need to have 24, and once you have all 24 the quest will "use them" and they will be removed from your inventory

You can use any of your neighbour's Vitalin Crystals, including the many Huginn has left out for everyone. The timer works at your neighbours as well.

Cordelia, help me understand the Vitalin Gems since the recent change to harvest one gem every 4 hours. While I may be able to collect more than one per day, it also appears the "chopped" crystals are no longer regenerating (i.e., they don't regenerate from 1/4 back to 0/4). Is this intended? If so, at some point I'll use up my own crystals - you said above that ONE crystal will grow if all of my originals have been used up - is this still true? And if only one, the regrowth rate will never keep up with the new ability to harvest up to six per day. While I understand I can gather my gem from neighbors, that only works once per day per neighbor. I fear asking us to hold back some of our neighbor visits to be used throughout the day is adding an unwanted barrier to the game. I've spoken with many of my neighbors and their current practice is they have one time of day where they devote enough time to visit all of their neighbors so none are missed. Changing this practice may have negative impact on the pleasure of the game (similar to the pain it is that you can only acknowledge one neighbor's visit to your own fair on the news page). Just sayin'

Speaking of which, I'm really curious to know the developer's logic for why they have chosen to limit us to acknowledging just one neighbor visit per news page load? We can force the page to present by traveling to a neighbor's fair and then returning to our own, or to go to our mine and then return to the fair, but this seems to me to be a barrier to the smooth play of the game - wasting LOTS of time going back and forth all the time. Most of the time I just don't bother but last night I made a point to clear out all the visitor's from my news page and was embarrassed to find I had friend's visits that dated back 14 days. On top of that, I have several neighbors who have FB security set up so I can't post to their wall...as a result, these notices can never be removed from the news page and it's entirely possible there are people out there who would never be able to see visit notices from others that could and should be thanked but don't get the chance because of visits that remain stuck on the page due to no wall posts...make sense???

I too was wondering if the changes to the vitalin were intentional. I can get a vitalin gem once every 4 hours now, but as of yet, it doesn't appear that the vitalin are regrowing. I have never clicked them til they were gone, but I guess eventually they will be gone, if they no longer regrow.

This is the latest update I have:

• The Vitalin Gem timer is now 4 hours (not 20 hours)
• Vitalin Crystals no longer regenerate if partially chopped
• Vitalin Crystals are no longer part of regular regrowth. If you have no vitalin crystals when a regrowth occurs then one 4-chop one will grow. But only one.

If you find this information to be factually incorrect please let me know.

Reminder, if you do not have any available Vitalin Crystals or you want to use your to receive (regular) Vitalin for use in the fair:

• You can use Huginn's Vitalin Crystals. He should have at least 5 chops available for you. You can space your visits out and use his for 5 of your Vitalin Gems each day. Yes I understand for many users the time it takes to visit a neighbour makes this unattractive
• Each player could be kind and leave at least 1 chop on a Vitalin Crystal available. Then you could break up your neighbour visits and space them out for when your timer is up.

Now at least I guess we have plenty of vitalin gems. However, there is really no point in coming back every 4 hours to collect, as eventually if one does, one will only have one vitalin crystal to chop, though perhaps that will be enough. Who knows. Or perhaps after one gets all their crystals chopped up, the game will change it back so that they regrow. I think perhaps I am done chopping at least my own crystals for the time being, in fact, it may be a good time to take a break as there is nothing to work on anyway. So much for strategy.

since this update I haven't gotten a single vitalin from my vitalin crystals. Has the droprate been altered from before or have vitalin stopped dropping from vitalin crystals all together?

I have not been getting vitalin drops from my neighbours mines crystals, I get the gems but not the vitalin.

I can't get to the last vitalin crystal cause the mysterious portal ruin is in the way. How can I get to it and finish the quest already?

Use your neighbour's crystals (Huggin has a bunch) to get the last few you need to finish the portal. Once the portal is complete you will be able to move it. That's probably the only solution.

That's the official information, but most people are finding that vitalin crystal grow back as a small percentage of regular regrowth. Give it a try, if you get rid of all your "normal" rocks and just leave the special ones you should have cleared enough to get some new rocks. See if you get any new vitalin crystals.

After you mine one gem you will not get another until the 4 hour timer runs down no matter whose crystals you mine

1) Double check your timer to see where it's at before mining. If it's at anywhere over four hours you definitely have a bug. If the gem is ready to be mined go ahead and mine it.

2) Check your stash of vitalin gems before and after you mine. You may not see the gem pop up, but that doesn't mean you didn't get one.

3) Try clearing your cache and restarting if needed (for instructions on how to do that, check out the FAQ)

4) If it's definitely a bug, send in a bug report (again, check the FAQ for instructions)
