Default (UPDATED)FAQ: Why do I have to spend credits to finish a quest?

You do not need to spend Facebook credits to play the game. Items that can only be purchased for credits are optional; as are the few, clearly marked bonus quests for premium items. If a quest is not clearly marked as a bonus quest then there is a way to complete it without credits, please refer to the details below.

If you have found a quest and you think it requires you to spend credits read it carefully again, including the tip. If it requires buying something remember that there may be multiple items that fulfill the quest and they may not be grouped together.

Not all building materials are able to be sent as gifts via the wall or free gift tab, these materials must be obtained by playing.

    Specific Quests:

Dr. Cat's Sweetie: you can purchase any cat statue. The Tigerseye Cat Statue is 3200 coins. It's currently on the same page as the picnic umbrellas, Rattleyrs, and Emerald Cat statue, but things in the shop tend to move around.

What's a Party Without Music: There's a new song "Bring Your Dancing Shoes" in Calliope, to find it click the Calliope, then "Play Song" then click the yellow arrow to the left of the songs.

New Tune: There are songs available for credits, and songs that require coins and sheet music. The number listed for sheet music may be how many more are needed than you already have.

Bonus Quests: Bonus quests are optional quests that can be abandoned by users at any point. However once a quest has been abandoned users can't change their mind and get the quest back. Ravenwood fair is now adding one-off bonus quests in between chains that are usually for expired themes from the past.

Some quest chains have bonus quests on the end. Such as "Tunnel of Love". These quests either involve items that require a large amount of gift-only items (ie 119 sugar skulls to buy the Haunted House") which allow players to either pay the usual price (ie buy 119 sugar skulls for credits) or earn some or all of them by annoying their friends. Or the quest may be for a credit-only item and give a special item as a reward (such as Tunnel of Love). These quests do not block any normal quests and can be abandoned (possibly not until the season is removed from the game).

    NEW! Materials:

Not all materials drop, some can only be gifted. Not all materials can be asked for, gifted, or put on the wishlist. Some materials drop from both your own fair and your neighbours, some drop from your own fair only, and some drop from neighbours. Some materials can only be created in-game through "crafting" (in the Ore Refiner, etc). Some materials are only rewarded by quests.

ALL materials can be obtained without spending credits, though of course you can buy almost all materials with credits should you chose to. Most materials will tell you where they can be obtained from if you

Artesian water was the first material in the game that could not be gifted, it also could not be obtained from neighbours.

Gumbo, Cotton Candy, Peanuts, Bug Shoes, and Bug Whistles can not be gifted, but drop from both your own trees, neighbours' trees, and neighbours' protectors.

You haven't been able to ask for items from expired seasons for quite some time now, I'm not sure how or why you were able to ask for Halloween and Thanksgiving things yesterday; but the game policy is that you can not ask for expired seasonal building materials.

At this point your best option is probably to sell the incomplete buildings using the multi-tool (yellow arrow near the shoppe)

Peanuts & Cotton Candy for the thrill ride quests do not have an Ask Friends button.

Bug Whistle & Bug Shoe also.

Sorry Maybe check that you don't have any other unfinished buildings that are triggering other drops.

I am completely confused because I'm getting conflicting answers.

The first part of the advice was

You do not need to spend facebook credits to finish any quest. Items that can only be purchased for credits are optional.

    Then it said

"Or the quest may be for a credit-only item and give a special item as a reward (such as Tunnel of Love). These quests do not block any normal quests and can be abandoned (possibly not until the season is removed from the game)"

So is this telling us that we will start to be given quests that we have to spend money for - I know we can abandon them - but this is the first quest I have ever had that the only way to meet the quest is to spend real money. If this is the case, then the first sentence is not true.

As I mentioned in a thread I started not realising this one was her - I don't mind that the developers are seeking other ways to raise funds - but it would be nice to know there has been a change from being able to complete all quests if real cash is not spent to only most with extra quests which are money only quests. That is a change which has not been communicated - hence the confusion.

Please can you confirm if my understanding is correct. If it is not correct, why am I not able to complete the Tunnel of Love without spending money - is this an error in the game or because my conclusion is correct.

I have edited the FAQ. You don't need to spend credits to finish any actual part of the game or story. There are some bonus quests which are not meant to be a necessary part of the game, and you can either skip them or finish them it makes no difference, skipping them will not cause you to miss out on anything or alter the game in a any way
