With the new items that only drop from chopping trees, I'm finding I need to use a sleeping potion to "renew" my forest. I've noticed that it only seems to work one time. The second time there is no new growth. Is there a 1 day limit?

There's no limit on sleeping potion.
However the game sometimes fails to release squares properly until the game is reloaded. So the game still sees the trees you just chopped down. Just before you use a sleeping potion reload the game.
