Question No regrowth in my city

Yesterday, everything was working fine, saw my quarry regenerate from nothing to pretty much full and got plenty of vines and rocks regenerating in the clear space left for this purpose. Today I have had nothing. I haven't covered any more area, (though I have added some buildings to the area I set aside - all grassed/paved) none of the totems are active (and my neighbours aren't recharging them). I am at a loss as to what is wrong.

I had found it very difficult to get into the game today, at one point it was just a white screen when trying to gift or load the game and I wondered if this had anything to do with the problem. My husband found it slow to get in but was able to access the game when I couldn't.

Is anyone able to shed some light on the issue?

Okay, this morning there was growth, both in the quarry and the clear areas. It's been roughly a day and a half since the last growth and I thought it was every eight hours. Can anyone help?

Growth happens approximately three times per day. You will also receive no growth if more than 30% of your squares have growth in them

Thank you for the response. Well, I had more growth overnight but then nothing since but I've cleared a lot more land today, leaving a couple of quite large areas so we'll see what happens. It might be that I just hadn't cleared quite enough for regular regrowth to occur.

Can growth be affect by how much land is covered in decoration/buildings? If so, how much do I have to leave open?

Thank you for the advice, I'm now seeing regular regrowth (and a decent amount of it too).

Less space available for growth will cause less growth. Ie you won't get 1 thing in every square no matter how few squares are open. Also bigger areas get more growth than strips that are only 1 or 2 squares wide.
